The Argan tree is one of the latest tree coming from tertiary era. It only grows in the south ouest of Marocco where its environmental and socio-economical role is very important. Thanks to its powerful roots system, it helps to maintain the earth and fto avor its fertility, by protecting from erosion, rain and wind, which threatens Marocco of desertification.

The Argan tree is a tree of Life, its oil is precious and rare, and everything from it is usefull: the leaves and the pulp for the animals, the almonds for the oil, the wood for heat and carpentery.

It helps three millions people to live by preventing them from leaving the country. But it is in danger. Every year, six hundred hectares desappear. Trees are cut for intensiv agriculture, for the wood for heating.

In order to fight against this, feminin cooperatives were structured. They work in the respect of their tradition. By producing this oil, these women develop a wonderful product and give an economical reason for the protection of the forest. This action invites to the respect of the tree, to the afforestation and the prolongation of life. These cooperatives get support of lots of international organizations looking at the respect of life and nature.
